In this section, George shows us more of what goes on in his playing style based on the previous examples. Figure 18 is a simple classical-sounding tapping lick in A natural minor. Though it's a recurring pattern, it's challenging to try this run without tapping. But when tapping it all out, George shows how he mutes the unplayed strings in photo D.

Wide stretches and string skipping using left hand hammer-ons is what figure 20 is all about. As George describes, "This run has a definite Eastern feel to it. It's based on the fith mode of the E harmonic minor scale (B, C, D#, E, F#, G, A). This Kind of lick sounds great over a B chord in the key of E minor and it's not as difficult as it looks." |
